Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Social Impact Practicum (42708)

Course Overview

This lab course centers around several live consulting projects that allow students to consider the role of the firm in society by exploring sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and more.

Class time will be about 50% project-based, complemented by cases, discussions, and guest speakers who extend learning beyond the projects. There will also be some attention to how students work as a team and what they learn from that experience.

Projects and clients will be announced in October 2026. Past projects have focused on sustainability, innovation, philanthropy, and strategy with Vanguard, Mondelez, Kraft Heinz, AB InBev, WM (Waste Management), DuPont, Hyatt, Owens Corning, ThirdLove, and the Allstate Foundation.

  • By application only.
  • Class sessions are required and will be in person only, with no remote option.
  • Final presentations will be held during Week 9 and exam week.
  • There will be additional required meetings with your client outside of class, including a potential field trip beginning at 7:00 a.m. and concluding by 1:15 p.m., allowing you to return to Harper for your afternoon class.
  • Class in Weeks 2 and 9 will extend to 1:15 p.m.
  • Attendance at the first class on Wednesday, January 6, is mandatory; no exceptions.
  • Students will be divided into three assigned groups. Students will have an opportunity to rank their project preferences.
  • Project descriptions will be updated as they become available.

The 2026 syllabus is posted for illustrative purposes and will be updated once the projects are defined, prior to applications opening.
