This is a graduate seminar for Ph.D. students interested in behavioral science and related fields. The class will be focused on reading and discussion
The first half of the course, taught by Ayelet Fishbach, will focus on Motivation Science. We will cover topics such as goal setting, monitoring progress and feedback, pursuing multiple goals (including self-control conflict), and the role of social support in goal achievement. The second half of the course, taught by Emma Levine, will focus on organizational behavior (OB). The readings are meant to introduce students to the field of organizational behavior, with a psychological/behavioral science perspective in mind. We will cover topics such as meaning at work, groups and teams, behavioral ethics, trust, hierarchy and power, and conflict management.
Students are expected to read the assigned articles in advance, actively participate in class discussions, generate original research ideas, and provide critical and constructive comments on classmates’ research ideas. The main purpose of this course is to stimulate research while learning about the focal topics. As part of this class, you will be asked to develop a research project that will be presented to class and submitted as a paper.
