Course Detail (Course Description By Faculty)

The goal of the course is for students to more deeply explore topics in venture capital. Specifically, during the quarter, students will develop (a) a fund strategy or (b) an investment thesis. Student groups will meet with the professor and potentially outside mentors throughout the quarter to receive guidance and feedback. The goal is work of professional quality— either stream should be ready to shape a real investment focus or drive an actual fund launch. It is particularly suitable for students who are on a path to work at a VC fund or have ambitions of one day launching their own fund. Class enrollment is limited to 10 students. 

Winter 2027 Note:

In Winter 2027, this section will be offered as part of the The San Francisco Venture Capital Internship Initiative.  This is a study-away quarter for MBA students.  Class will be held at the Polsky Center’s Third Coast Foundry location in downtown San Francisco.

1. Students are required to take the advanced venture capital lab if they have secured an internship with a VC fund through the VC Lab.
2. To take this advanced venture capital lab course, you must have taken the VC lab previously. This class may not be audited or taken pass/fail. 

Grades are determined by two factors: (1) your host firm evaluation and (2) the presentation of your project. 

Attendance for the first and last class is required. Attendance for other sessions is optional. There is no participation grade for this course.  

Students may choose to work individually or with one other classmate.
