Course Detail (Course Description By Faculty)

Technology Strategy (39101)

This course focuses on business strategy in the context of technology change.  In the past, the class focused on a short list of relatively technology intensive industries.  But under the current digital/AI revolution, the concepts and frameworks covered in the class apply to almost all industries.  The fundamental principle that underlies the class is that how every companies competes, from their business strategy and business model/operating model, and the structure of the industry they compete in, has been optimized within one or more technology paradigms.  Hence, when a new technology paradigms emerges a re-optimization process must follow - their strategy must change or they risk being being disrupted by new entrants to their industry.  Engaging in this type of strategy process requires a deeper set of concepts than those provided in a traditional strategy class.

While technological change is at the heart of the course, a background in technology is not required.
