A case-based corporate finance course designed to apply and enhance concepts learned in introductory classes (35200 or 35010). The course is structured to provide practical examples and real-world business situations, making it ideal for students considering careers in investment banking and finance departments of corporations, or those for whom practical corporate finance tools and skills are relevant (e.g., strategy, corporate development).
Key strategic and financial choices will be examined, including asset sales, mergers and acquisitions, major capital structure changes, such as IPOs, debt restructurings, dividend policy and bankruptcy. We will focus on the tools for measuring value and value creation/destruction and the economics underlying the value creation process.
Each week involves preparing a case study, with a group write-up due, and subsequent class discussion requiring active participation, and attendance. Grading would be based on a combination of case write-ups, class participation, and a comprehensive final exam.
