Course Detail (Course Description By Faculty)

Introductory Finance (35001)

The course introduces students to corporate finance, asset pricing, and investments. It is designed for students who have no background in finance and may or may not choose to concentrate in finance. I discuss sources of funds, capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, cost of capital, portfolio theory, the capital asset pricing model, multifactor asset pricing models, valuation, and market efficiency. I provide the students with references to more advanced materials if they decide that they want to wade into the material further. The course is taught primarily with lectures but it relies heavily on numerical examples.

It is recommended that students take Business 30000 prior to taking Business 35001. All Non-Booth students require instructor permission to enroll.  Cannot enroll in 35001 if 35010 taken previously: strict.
The main text used for the course is Berk and DeMarzo, Corporate Finance. The course Canvas site will contain supplemental readings and articles.
Based on homework assignments, class participation, a mid-term, and a final. Provisional grades for non-Booth students provided, but no early final grades. I usually do not allow auditors in this course but you can email me if you have a special case.
