Investments (35000)

This course provides the financial theory and quantitative analytical tools for making informed decisions on security valuation and portfolio strategies. The course combines a theoretical framework with applied analysis. Topics include valuation of equity, fixed income, and derivative securities; portfolio selection; models of risk and return including the CAPM and multifactor models; market efficiency, anomalies and fund performance.

BUS 30000 and BUS 33001 are recommended. Either BUS 41000 or BUS 41100 is required. The course is quantitative in nature and students must be comfortable with probability, statistics, and regression analysis. In addition, students must be familiar with a spreadsheet package such as Excel. Cannot enroll in BUS 35000 if BUS 20400 taken previously.

The textbook for the course is Investments by Bodie, Kane, and Marcus, 13th Edition. Supplemental readings, cases, and articles will be posted on Canvas.

Grades are based on midterm exam, final exam, assignments, and class participation.
