Health Economics Literature Seminar (33920, 50 Unit Course)

This is a literature seminar in which students present recent papers in health economics.  The goal is for students to understand the literature at the frontier of the field, its limitations, and opportunities to improve it.  Topics vary by year as the field progresses.

Knowledge of PhD level microeconomics and econometrics will be needed. Bus 33001, 33101, 33002 or Econ 30000, 30100, or 30200 & Econometrics at PhD level: strict.  Students are encouraged (though not required) to take ECON 37710/PPHA 48050 (“Economics of Healthcare”) concurrently with or prior to this course. BUSN 33920=ECON 37720

Booth MBA students are allowed to take the course with the understanding that it will be PhD level material and requires reading, interpreting and presenting academic research papers. This will require a general comfort level with econometrics, causal inference, calculus and microeconomic theory. If you are an MBA student interested in enrolling in the course, please get preclearance from Professor Shapiro prior to enrolling to verify that you are sufficiently prepared for the material.
