Art + Business Lab (42726, 50 Unit Course)

What might be possible if we combine the best of artistic creativity and expression with the best of business innovation and entrepreneurship? The class begins with this question, followed by an examination of each realm and their potential for convergence. Through video-based case studies, in-class exercises, readings, discussions, and group projects, students will explore commercial and civic possibilities at the intersection of art and business. The culminating assignment will be to develop a plan and prototype for a new for-profit or not-for-profit venture.

Up to 24 students will be accepted to the class by application. The selection process will aim to ensure a variety of experiences and perspectives. Preference will be given to: 1) students who have taken the Arts Leadership Class and/or have an arts background; 2) students who have taken entrepreneurship classes and/or who have experience in business innovation.  However, any student with an interest in the subject matter is welcome.

  • Application-based course

Grades will be based on class participation and in-class exercises (30%), a group project (30%) and a final portfolio (40%).

  • Mandatory attendance week 1
