This course will explore the challenges of corporate finance and investment in an integrated (and possible de-globalizing) world economy. How should one optimally organize the location of production, control, and financing? What kinds of new concerns emerge when the whole world, rather than just one's domestic economy, becomes the arena of decision making? How does corporate decision making depend on the environment one is doing business in? In a world that is changing fast, this course will focus on finance and economics, but also on geo-politics, climate change, automation, and other important issues confronting us today. We will also have optional guest lectures outside class.
Strict prerequisite (not to be taken concurrently): 35200 or any one of 35201, 30130, 34101, or 35902. An undergraduate equivalent, or a basic corporate finance course elsewhere could work. Email me for permission. CFA or work experience is no substitute.
The course will be based on a set of readings and cases.
Grades will be based on class participation, case-write-ups, and an exam. I discourage auditors, not because I have anything against them, but because experience tells me that if anyone does not read and do some work on the cases before class, they will not learn much.
- Allow Provisional Grades (For joint degree and non-Booth students only)
