Course Detail (Course Description By Faculty)

Introductory Finance (35001)

This course introduces students to corporate finance and investments. It is designed for students who want to dip their toes into the finance waters, but not to take the full plunge. We discuss sources of funds, capital budgeting, capital structure, dividend policy, cost of capital, portfolio theory, the capital asset pricing model and valuation. Students will be provided with references to more advanced materials if they decide they want to wade into the material further. The course is taught primarily with lectures but relies heavily on numerical examples. The online midterm is on October 31 till November 6 and the online final is on December 5-11.

It is recommended that students take Business 30000 prior to taking Business 35001.
The main text used for the course is Berk and DeMarzo, Corporate Finance. The course Canvas site will contain supplemental readings and articles.
